History and Year of Notification

The sanctuary was officially notified in 1988 under Indian wildlife conservation frameworks. Notified as a Wildlife Sanctuary in March 1988 under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Estuarine mangrove swamp, Rhizophora trees, tidal creeks, mudflats, and wooden boardwalks.

Protects estuarine mangrove avifauna. Key species include Black Bittern, Little Bittern, Western Reef Heron, Striated Heron, Pied Kingfisher, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Black-capped Kingfisher, Redshank, and Osprey.
