Nawegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve
Introduction
Navegaon–Nagzira Tiger Reserve in eastern Maharashtra was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2013. Comprising Navegaon National Park, Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary and adjoining forests, it is a vital link in the Central Indian tiger landscape, connecting Kanha, Pench, Tadoba-Andhari and Umred-Paoni-Karhandla landscapes.

Location
Situated in eastern Vidarbha near the Chhattisgarh border, the reserve forms an important wildlife corridor across central India.
History
The reserve was notified in 2013 by combining long-protected forests around Navegaon National Park and Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary under Project Tiger.
Landscape, Geography & Habitat
The reserve spans 1,333.88 sq km with a core of 653.67 sq km and a buffer of 680.21 sq km. Rolling hills, bamboo brakes, teak forests, wetlands and lakes create ideal habitats for tigers and prey species.
Flora
Major species include teak, saja, bija, dhaora, bamboo, tendu, mahua, arjun, jamun and numerous grasses and medicinal plants.
Fauna
The reserve supports Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Dhole, Sloth Bear, Gaur, Sambar, Chital, Barking Deer, Nilgai, Wild Boar, Four-horned Antelope and over 300 bird species. Indian Rock Python, Cobra and Monitor Lizard are also recorded.

Navegaon Lake and several perennial streams provide dependable water throughout the year.
