Location

Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary is geographically located in the Champhai district of Mizoram. 55 km from Champhai town near the Myanmar border.

History and Year of Notification

The sanctuary was officially notified in 2001 under Indian wildlife conservation frameworks. Notified as a Wildlife Sanctuary in March 2001 under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Landscape, Geography and Habitat

High altitude sub-tropical montane evergreen rainforest, steep cliffs, oak-rhododendron forest, and bamboo brakes.

Flora and Bird Species

Himalayan & Indo-Burma montane avifauna. Key species include Mrs. Hume’s Pheasant (State Bird of Mizoram), Blyth’s Tragopan, Dark-rumped Swift, Great Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Sunbird, Babbler, and Laughingthrush.
