Dhansiri–Lungding Elephant Reserve
Dhansiri–Lungding Elephant Reserve is an important elephant conservation landscape in southern Assam. Located within the Karbi Anglong hill ranges, the reserve safeguards extensive tropical forests that support resident elephant populations while maintaining ecological connectivity with neighbouring forests in Nagaland. The reserve plays a significant role in protecting elephant migration routes across the northeastern hill ecosystems.
Location
The reserve lies primarily within Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts of Assam. It extends across the Dhansiri and Lungding river catchments and shares ecological connectivity with protected forests in Nagaland.
Brief History
Dhansiri–Lungding Elephant Reserve was notified under Project Elephant on 17 April 2003. It was created to secure elephant habitats, reduce fragmentation and conserve one of the key elephant corridors of Northeast India.
