Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh | October 25, 2026

Two cheetahs reportedly entered a cattle shed in Bamori village in Sheopur’s Karahal area, near Kuno National Park, and killed two calves on Sunday. A cattle herder and his wife sleeping nearby escaped unharmed.

Couple Awakened by Distressed Livestock

According to The Free Press Journal, Somla Veer and his wife woke to sounds from the shed, saw the animals and left the spot. The calves were reportedly tethered inside.

Villagers Demand Patrolling and Compensation

Residents informed the Forest Department and sought increased patrolling, closer surveillance and compensation. Some alleged that monitoring teams had not been visible locally; the report does not provide an official response to that allegation.

Tracking Begins After the Incident

Forest personnel began tracking the cheetahs. The report does not identify the animals or confirm their subsequent location.

Livestock Protection Matters for Coexistence

The incident raises practical questions about protecting livestock around Kuno. Secure night-time enclosures, timely communication about nearby animal movements and prompt assessment of reported losses could help reduce risks and support affected families.

Clear findings from the tracking teams would also help distinguish residents’ accounts from confirmed details. Movement near a settlement, livestock predation and an attack on people are different events; no human injury was reported in this incident.
