Injured Leopard Evades Rescue Near Indore, Residents Urged to Stay Alert

Wildlifeindia News Desk

An injured leopard remained uncaptured for a second consecutive day in Umariya Khurd village near Indore, according to a report published on October 23. Repeated sightings near homes and agricultural fields raised concern among residents as forest teams continued their rescue efforts.

Leopard Spotted Near Homes and Farmland

The leopard was first seen on October 22, resting on a veranda before retreating into nearby vegetation when rescue personnel approached. Further sightings were reported in agricultural fields behind residential properties later that afternoon and the following morning.

Video footage showed the animal limping, with visible injuries on its head and face. The cause of the wounds remains unconfirmed.

Rescue Cages Deployed

Forest personnel placed two baited rescue cages near suspected movement routes and searched the surrounding area.

Villagers called for stronger patrolling, expressing concern about entering fields for essential irrigation work. Safely securing the leopard would allow its injuries to be assessed while reducing the risk of encounters with residents.

Precautions Advised for Residents

Authorities advised villagers to avoid entering fields alone, particularly at night and early morning. Residents were also urged to keep children indoors, secure livestock and promptly report sightings.

People should avoid approaching, surrounding or provoking the leopard and give trained personnel space to conduct the rescue.
