Chamarajanagar: Two elephant carcasses have been discovered in separate forest areas of Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district, prompting examinations by forest officials and veterinary personnel.

Decomposed Carcass Found During Patrol

According to an October 20 report, patrolling staff found an elephant’s decomposed carcass near Karadigudda Lake in the Hanur forest division on Tuesday.

Advanced decomposition prevented an immediate determination of the cause of death. Samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis. The discovery’s exact time was not reported.

Female Elephant Found Dead in Bandipur

Separately, a female elephant’s carcass was found near Marikatte Lake in the Berambadi beat of Bandipur forest division, in Gundlupet taluk.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Nandeesh and veterinary officers inspected the site. Officials suspect natural causes, potentially age-related ailments, but further assessment is needed.

Monitoring Concerns Raised

Wildlife enthusiasts questioned alleged shortcomings in patrolling and called for stronger surveillance.

The causes of both deaths remain unconfirmed. The report establishes no connection between the two incidents.
