Panna: A 60-year-old man survived a tiger attack near Jardhova village adjoining Madhya Pradesh’s Panna Tiger Reserve on Sunday, October 18, after another villager threw stones at the animal, reportedly forcing it to retreat.
The injured man, identified in regional reports as Malkhan Singh Rajgond, was taking his buffaloes towards the forest when he was attacked. The exact time of the incident was not specified.
Companion Intervenes During Attack
Rajgond suffered injuries to his face, back and knee. A nearby villager intervened by throwing stones, allowing him to escape the attack and receive medical assistance.
Residents Allege Delayed Response
Villagers alleged that forest personnel failed to respond promptly despite earlier information about tiger movement. They said a Dial 112 vehicle eventually transported the injured man to hospital.
Panna Tiger Reserve deputy director Birendra Kumar Patel said a team was dispatched as soon as information arrived.
Treatment and Patrols Arranged
Patel said Rajgond was stable and out of danger. Officials reportedly provided ₹2,000 in immediate assistance and committed to covering treatment expenses.
Elephant-assisted patrols were deployed to move the tiger away from residential areas.
