Wildlifeindia News Desk

Madhya Pradesh: Forest officials captured and translocated approximately 100 blackbucks from farmland in Shajapur district on October 10, the opening day of a wildlife relocation drive.

The animals were collected at Hannukhedi and Polaykala and transported to Kuno National Park in specially designed wildlife trucks.

Boma Enclosure Used for Capture

The blackbucks were guided into a boma, an enclosure used to capture wildlife. The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department is conducting the operation with South Africa’s Conservation Solutions team.

Drive Also Covers Nilgai

The operation is scheduled to continue until October 31 across identified locations in Shajapur district. It targets both blackbucks and nilgai.

Work Paused as Temperatures Rose

Nodal officer and Chief Conservator of Forests Kiran Bisen said further capture work was suspended for the day when temperatures increased, prioritising animal welfare. Officials planned to resume at the same site on October 11.

Residents Asked to Avoid Crowding

The district administration and Forest Department urged villagers to stay away from fields during the operation, secure their pet dogs and avoid gathering near the capture area.
