A woman was killed in a suspected tiger attack on the outskirts of Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in Bihar, marking the second fatal attack in the region within two days. The incident has heightened fear among villages located along the reserve’s forest fringe.
According to forest officials, the woman had ventured close to the forest when the tiger attacked. Her body was later recovered, and preliminary investigations indicated that a tiger was responsible for the fatal encounter.
Following the back-to-back incidents, the Forest Department has intensified surveillance in the area by deploying tracking teams, camera traps and patrol personnel to monitor the animal’s movement. Authorities are also advising residents to avoid entering forested areas alone, especially during dawn and dusk, when tiger activity is generally higher.
The repeated attacks have raised concerns over increasing human-tiger conflict around Valmiki Tiger Reserve. Forest officials are working to identify the tiger involved and implement measures to prevent further loss of human life while ensuring the animal is managed in accordance with wildlife conservation protocols.
The incident underscores the growing challenge of balancing wildlife conservation with the safety of communities living near tiger habitats, where expanding human activity and habitat overlap continue to increase the risk of encounters.
