The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department has successfully rescued and captured a leopard believed to be responsible for the death of an 88-year-old man in the Katarniaghat Wildlife Division of Bahraich district. The operation has brought relief to residents who had been living in fear following the fatal attack.

Fatal Attack

The elderly victim was attacked in the early hours while sleeping on the veranda of his home in a village near the Katarniaghat forest. According to officials, the leopard dragged the man away from the house before family members could intervene. He suffered severe injuries and was later declared dead, triggering panic across the surrounding villages.

Rescue Operation

Following the incident, forest officials intensified surveillance and launched an extensive search operation. Camera traps, cages, and continuous patrolling were deployed to track the animal’s movement. The leopard was eventually trapped and safely rescued by the Forest Department without causing further harm to people or the animal.

Relief for Villagers

The successful capture of the leopard has eased tensions among residents of villages bordering the Katarniaghat forests. In the days after the attack, many villagers had avoided venturing out during the night and early morning hours due to fears of another encounter. Forest authorities have urged people to remain cautious while continuing to monitor the area for any additional wildlife movement.
