A leopard straying into a residential area in Rajasthan triggered nearly five hours of panic before forest officials successfully tranquilised and rescued the animal. During the tense operation, three people sustained injuries as the frightened big cat moved through the locality.

The incident occurred in Todaraisingh town of Tonk district, where the leopard suddenly entered the populated area, catching residents by surprise. The animal first attacked a man outside a liquor shop before rushing inside, where another person was injured. The unexpected appearance of the leopard created chaos as frightened residents fled the area and a large crowd gathered at the scene.

Police and forest department personnel quickly cordoned off the area while a specialised rescue team from Jaipur Zoo, equipped with tranquiliser guns, was called in. Rescue personnel worked carefully to prevent further injuries while keeping the growing crowd at a safe distance.

After an operation lasting about five hours, veterinarians successfully tranquillised the leopard. Officials then safely captured the animal, believed to be around four to five years old, without causing it any harm. The injured victims were shifted to a nearby hospital and are receiving treatment.

The dramatic rescue was captured on CCTV cameras, with footage showing the leopard entering the shop and the ensuing panic. Authorities are investigating how the animal strayed into the town, though such incidents are often linked to habitat fragmentation, shrinking forest cover, or young dispersing leopards searching for new territories.

Wildlife experts have once again urged people not to chase or corner wild animals that enter human settlements. Instead, they advise maintaining a safe distance and immediately alerting the forest department, allowing trained rescue teams to handle such situations safely for both people and wildlife.
