A month-long operation by the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department came to a successful conclusion with the capture of a lone wild male elephant that had been terrorising villages around Palamaner in Chittoor district. The elephant had repeatedly strayed into agricultural fields, destroying crops and creating fear among local residents.
Forest officials intensified the operation after the elephant attacked a man identified as Sukumar during an earlier attempt to drive it back into the forest. To safely track the animal, teams deployed drones and thermal imaging cameras, continuously monitoring its movements across the forest landscape for more than a month.
The elephant was eventually located near a national highway within the same forest section where the earlier attack had occurred. A coordinated team of forest personnel and trained wildlife experts successfully tranquilised and captured the animal without further incident.
The successful operation has brought relief to farmers and villagers who had been living under constant fear of crop losses and possible encounters with the elephant. Forest officials are expected to relocate the animal to a suitable habitat to minimise future human-elephant conflict while ensuring its welfare.
