After several days of fear and repeated crop damage, the Karnataka Forest Department successfully captured a wild elephant that had been raiding agricultural fields in Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district. The operation was carried out on July 16 in the Ubrani forest region, bringing much-needed relief to farmers and villagers who had been demanding immediate intervention.

The elephant had repeatedly ventured out of the forest into nearby villages, destroying standing crops and creating panic among residents. Forest officials closely monitored the animal’s movements before launching a carefully planned capture operation involving trained personnel. The elephant was safely tranquilised and secured without any reported injuries to people or the animal.

Following the successful capture, the elephant is expected to be relocated to a suitable forest habitat where it can be managed safely, reducing the risk of further human-elephant conflict. The operation highlights the continuing challenge of balancing wildlife conservation with the protection of rural communities as elephants increasingly stray into agricultural landscapes in search of food.
