Telangana Police have taken into custody a suspected poaching gang allegedly involved in the killing of two leopards in Nizamabad district, exposing an illegal wildlife trade targeting the animals for their skins and claws. The arrests followed investigations by the Forest Department into two separate leopard deaths reported in the district.

The first leopard carcass was recovered from the Tallapalli forest area in Bheemgal mandal, while another carcass was later found in a well in the Ramadugu forest area under the Indalwai Range. The discovery of the two dead leopards prompted an intensive probe by forest and police authorities.

Based on the investigation, police detained several suspects from Dharpally and Bheemgal. Investigators are now trying to determine the full extent of the poaching network, including whether the accused were linked to a larger wildlife trafficking syndicate operating in the region.

According to reports, the poachers allegedly hunted the leopards for their skins and claws, which are illegally traded in wildlife markets. The case has raised concerns over continued threats to protected wildlife despite legal safeguards.

In response, the Forest Department has intensified wildlife protection measures across vulnerable forest areas, including the installation of surveillance cameras to monitor wildlife movement and deter poaching activities. Officials have said that investigations are continuing and further arrests may follow as efforts to dismantle the poaching network progress.
