A 50-year-old farmer was killed in a tiger attack inside the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, highlighting the persistent challenge of human-wildlife conflict in the Terai landscape.
According to forest officials, the farmer had entered the sanctuary when he was attacked by a tiger. His body was later recovered from inside the protected forest area. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
The Forest Department reached the site after receiving information about the incident. Officials are assessing the attack and are expected to provide compensation to the victim’s family as per government norms for deaths caused by wild animals. The department has also intensified monitoring in the area.
Forest authorities have once again appealed to villagers living near the sanctuary to:
Avoid entering the core forest area without permission.
Refrain from grazing livestock or collecting forest produce in tiger habitats.
Report tiger sightings immediately to forest officials.
Awareness campaigns and increased patrolling are also being undertaken to reduce the risk of further human-wildlife encounters.
