A gruesome wildlife crime has been reported from the Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, where a male sloth bear was allegedly electrocuted by poachers using a live-wire trap set to hunt wild animals for bushmeat.

According to forest officials, the bear’s carcass was dragged through the forest, hacked into pieces, and its chest was slit open. Investigators found that the animal’s liver had been removed and its claws extracted before the mutilated remains were dumped into a well, apparently to conceal the crime. Authorities suspect the liver may have been taken for use in occult rituals, although the exact motive is still under investigation.

The incident has sparked outrage among wildlife conservationists, highlighting the continuing threats of poaching and illegal wildlife trade in India’s forests. Forest officials have launched an intensive investigation to identify those responsible and have intensified surveillance in the area.
