A leopard sighting in north Bengaluru on Thursday triggered panic after the animal was captured on CCTV roaming through a residential neighbourhood in the early hours.

The big cat was spotted in Bharat Nagar under Byatarayanapura, where footage showed it walking calmly along a street before disappearing from view. The video quickly spread across social media, prompting concern among local residents.

Forest Department officials immediately launched a search operation in the area. Teams are conducting intensive surveillance using CCTV footage and inputs from residents to track the leopard’s movements.

Authorities have urged people to avoid venturing out alone during late-night and early morning hours, remain alert, and report any fresh sightings to the Forest Department. Residents have also been advised to keep children and pets indoors until the animal is safely located.

No injuries or attacks have been reported so far. The incident is the latest in a series of leopard sightings around Bengaluru, highlighting the growing human-wildlife interface as urban expansion continues to encroach upon natural habitats.
