Thirteen deer were found dead 🦌🪦😔 in an agricultural well in Khardounkala village of Kalapipal tehsil in Madhya Pradesh’s Shajapur district, prompting the Forest Department to launch an inquiry. The carcasses, along with that of a stray dog, were discovered after a farmer’s family noticed a foul smell coming from the well.

Preliminary investigations suggest the herd may have been chased by a stray dog and accidentally plunged into the open well through a damaged section of its protective parapet. Forest officials believe the incident occurred one or two days before the animals were found, though the exact cause will be confirmed after postmortem examinations and a detailed investigation.

The area has been cordoned off while officials investigate whether negligence contributed to the tragedy. Since the deer are protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, legal formalities were completed before the carcasses were removed, examined, and cremated as per protocol. The Kalapipal-Shujalpur region is known for its large deer population, and authorities had recently relocated around 800 deer from the area to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
