Location

Sarsai Nawar Wetland is geographically located in the Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh. 25 km from Etawah railway junction.

History and Year of Notification

The sanctuary was officially notified in 2019 (Ramsar Site) under Indian wildlife conservation frameworks. Designated a Ramsar Site in 2019 due to its critical Sarus Crane breeding habitat.

Permanent freshwater marsh, lotus ponds, and surrounding cropland.

Flora and Bird Species

Hosts the highest concentration of Sarus Cranes in UP (over 400 breeding pairs). Other species include White-shouldered Ibis, Woolly-necked Stork, Pintail, Cotton Teal, and Black-necked Stork.

Nilgai (Blue Bull), Golden Jackal, Common Mongoose, Monitor Lizard, and Flapshell Turtle.
