Location

Nagi Dam Bird Sanctuary is geographically located in the Jamui district of Bihar. 15 km from Jhajha railway station on the Howrah-Delhi main line.

History and Year of Notification

The sanctuary was officially notified in 1987 under Indian wildlife conservation frameworks. Created around the Nagi River irrigation dam reservoir and declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in February 1987.

Freshwater reservoir lake surrounded by rocky Chota Nagpur plateau granite hills and dry deciduous forest.

Flora and Bird Species

Hosts up to 20,000 wintering waterfowl. Key species include Bar-headed Goose, Pintail, Red-crested Pochard, Tufted Duck, Eurasian Wigeon, Gadwall, Shoveler, Cotton Teal, Greylag Goose, and Indian Cormorant.
