Location

Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary is geographically located in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka. Located right next to NH-169, 30 km from Shivamogga.

History and Year of Notification

The sanctuary was officially notified in 1995 under Indian wildlife conservation frameworks. Protected by Karnataka Forest Department as a seasonal riverine heronry.

Natural tree-covered river island in the middle of flowing Tunga river waters.

Hosts over 5,000 nesting waterbirds. Key species include Median Egret, Darter, Little Cormorant, Snakebird, Night Heron, and Pied Kingfisher.
