Location

Gudavi Bird Sanctuary is geographically located in the Shivamogga (Soraba) district of Karnataka. 15 km from Soraba town on Soraba-Banavasi road.

History and Year of Notification

The sanctuary was officially notified in 1989 under Indian wildlife conservation frameworks. Declared a bird sanctuary in July 1989 by Karnataka Forest Department.

Natural monsoon lake filled with submerged trees and bamboo brakes encircled by moist deciduous forest.

Records over 217 bird species. Key nesting birds include Grey Heron, Night Heron, Little Cormorant, White Ibis, Darter, Egret, Bittern, and Spoonbill.
