Location

Chilika Lake (Nalabana Bird Sanctuary) is geographically located in the Puri, Khordha & Ganjam district of Odisha. Boat access from Barkul or Satapada.

History and Year of Notification

The sanctuary was officially notified in 1981 (Ramsar Site) / 1987 (Sanctuary) under Indian wildlife conservation frameworks. Chilika was designated India’s 1st Ramsar Site in 1981; Nalabana declared a sanctuary in 1987.
