Woman Killed in Tiger Attack in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat; Body Dragged 300 Metres

A woman was killed in a tiger attack in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh after the big cat reportedly dragged her body nearly 300 metres into the forest, highlighting the continuing challenge of human-wildlife conflict in the region.

The victim, identified as Sugni Bai Dhurve, had entered the forest in the Sijhora Buffer Zone near Baihar when the tiger attacked. Forest personnel later traced the animal’s trail and recovered her body from deep inside the forest.

Following the incident, the Forest Department intensified patrolling in the area and launched efforts to monitor the tiger’s movement. Officials have urged villagers to avoid venturing into forested areas alone, especially during early morning and evening hours, when encounters with wild animals are more likely.

The latest fatality has once again drawn attention to the growing human-tiger conflict in central India, where communities living near forests frequently share space with large carnivores. Wildlife experts stress that strengthening habitat protection, improving early warning systems and increasing community awareness are essential to reducing such tragic incidents while ensuring the long-term conservation of tigers.
