Leopard Safely Captured After Repeated Livestock Attacks in Katarniaghat

The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department has successfully captured a leopard that had been preying on livestock in villages around the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary in Bahraich district, bringing relief to local residents after weeks of fear.
The big cat had reportedly killed several domestic animals, prompting forest officials to intensify monitoring. A cage trap fitted with bait and surveillance cameras was installed in the affected area, eventually leading to the leopard’s safe capture without injury to the animal.
Following a veterinary examination, the leopard will be assessed to determine whether it is fit for release back into the wild or requires rehabilitation. Forest officials have urged villagers to avoid venturing alone into forest fringes, keep livestock secured during the night, and immediately report any wildlife sightings.
The successful operation highlights the importance of scientific wildlife management in addressing human-leopard conflict while ensuring the safety of both local communities and protected wildlife.
